The kitchen is considered one of the most important areas of a home according to Vastu Shastra because it represents the Fire element (Agni Tatva). A properly designed kitchen helps maintain good health, family harmony, prosperity and positive energy. Since food is prepared in the kitchen, the energy generated in this space directly influences the physical and mental well-being of family members.
The ideal location for a kitchen is the South-East direction of the house, which is governed by the Fire element. If a South-East kitchen is not possible, the North-West direction may be considered as an alternative. Avoid placing the kitchen in the North-East direction because it may create an imbalance between Water and Fire elements.
The cooking stove should be placed in the South-East corner of the kitchen. While cooking, the person should ideally face East. The sink and water purifier should be located in the North or North-East area. Maintaining a gap between the stove and sink is recommended because Fire and Water elements should not directly conflict.
Heavy appliances such as refrigerators, microwave ovens and storage cabinets should be placed in the South, South-West or West directions. Windows and ventilation should preferably be located in the East or North directions to allow sunlight and fresh air into the kitchen.

रसोईघर के लिए सबसे उत्तम दिशा दक्षिण-पूर्व (आग्नेय कोण) मानी जाती है। यह दिशा अग्नि तत्व की दिशा होती है और खाना बनाने के लिए सबसे उपयुक्त मानी जाती है। यदि दक्षिण-पूर्व दिशा उपलब्ध न हो तो उत्तर-पश्चिम दिशा का चयन किया जा सकता है। उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा में रसोईघर बनाने से बचना चाहिए क्योंकि यह जल तत्व का क्षेत्र माना जाता है।
गैस चूल्हा या स्टोव रसोई के दक्षिण-पूर्व भाग में रखना चाहिए। खाना बनाते समय व्यक्ति का मुख पूर्व दिशा की ओर होना शुभ माना जाता है। सिंक, पानी का फिल्टर तथा अन्य जल से संबंधित वस्तुएं उत्तर या उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा में रखनी चाहिए। चूल्हा और सिंक को एकदम पास नहीं रखना चाहिए क्योंकि अग्नि और जल तत्व का टकराव वास्तु दोष उत्पन्न कर सकता है।
फ्रिज, भारी अलमारियां और भंडारण की व्यवस्था दक्षिण, पश्चिम या दक्षिण-पश्चिम दिशा में करनी चाहिए। रसोई में पर्याप्त प्रकाश और वेंटिलेशन होना चाहिए। खिड़कियां पूर्व या उत्तर दिशा में हों तो प्राकृतिक प्रकाश और सकारात्मक ऊर्जा का प्रवेश होता है।
